You do not have to go through a 3rd party monitoring company. The Tracker only requires a SIM card from either AT&T or Tmobile, or any other SIM card carrier. The system will function and make calls so long as there are prepaid minutes available on your SIM card.

It either works or it doesnt, and this little gadget does exactly what I was looking for. The sim feature is excellent. Buy a $10 prepaid card from Tmobile. SMS messages are cheap so the card is excellent for this application. The prepaid minutes do expire after 90 days so you will need to buy a new prepaid card every 3 months. This GPS is well worth it as you do not have to pay a monthly fee to use the service. I've done stereo installs before so the installation of this was pretty easy and straight forward. The hardest part is actually removing parts of the dash and such so that you can hide the device easy and route all wiring professionally. I wired the relay to my ignition circuit. So if the relay is ativated the car cannot be started at all. The system will also only ativate the relay if the vehicle is moving less than about 10mph. These are not limited to vehicles. I successfully installed one on my utility trailer as well. I sleep much better at night now because I know if my vehicle is not there in the morning all I have to do is make 2 phone calls. One to the GPS and one to the Cops. Really like this item!
